OUR COMPANY

JCS ESTATES

JCS Estates was founded by John C. Starks upon the completion of a large scale remodel in Montecito. The owner requested that John stay on as a full time steward of the property and oversee all the maintenance. As they worked together, John was requested to serve more private aspects of running the estate.

Understanding the need for estate owners to balance privacy with reliable, on-demand help, John founded JCS Estates with a clear goal: simplify estate ownership for his clients.

By drawing on his decades of oversight experience in the construction and remodeling of historic landmark buildings, John knew he could relieve his clients of the most frustrating and tiresome aspects of managing their estate. First, finding reliable, vetted workers who owners could trust to handle projects on the estate. Second, overseeing technical and involved maintenance and construction.

John's years of experience in various trades connects him with many reliable, honest contractors which he offers to his clients. It also makes him uniquely equipped for handling any maintenance or improvements on a property.

True estate stewardship.

LOFTS AT HISTORIC SHOE FACTORY

By 1909, boot and shoe production was St. Louis’s leading industry, with 26 companies engaged in the business. Within the first twenty years of that century, RJ&R emerged as the largest shoe manufacturing company in the U.S.

A new vision was realized in 2003 with the rebirth of the Roberts, Johnson & Rand shoe plant as the Lofts At Lafayette Square. The resulting 148,000 ft sq residential building houses 115 units that are fully occupied, year-round, and immune to the vagaries of the shoe business.

Union Station was heralded as one of the most beautiful train stations, and the third largest passenger rail station in the country. President Woodrow Wilson declared Union Station the "gateway to the West".

Union Station sat empty and neglected, narrowly escaping demolition on several occasions. In 1996, a historic bi-state initiative was passed to fund the Station's renovation. With renovation completed in 1999, it created a destination that reflects the culture and entrepreneurship for the entire community.

UNION STATION UNDERGOES RENOVATIONS

The Forest Park Hotel is on the National Register of Historic Places. The six-story building was built in 1923 and is trimmed with terra cotta.

The Forest Park Hotel was once famous for the Circus Snack Bar nightclub and hosted performers such as Liberace, Louis Armstrong, and Sarah Vaughan.

In 2003, a private development group renovated and converted the long dormant Forest Park Hotel for $20 million into a 115-unit apartment building.

HISTORIC HOTEL TURNED APARTMENTS

This building was originally the Richards & Conover Hardware Company founded after the Civil War. In 1928, an addition was constructed to house offices and retail space. Richards & Conover Hardware became known as one of the nation’s oldest and largest wholesale hardware, iron and steel distributers covering 10 states until 1948. The Richards & Conover Hardware building was added to the Historic Registry in 1998, and converted into lofts in the early 2000’s.

HISTORIC REGISTER HARDWARE COMPANY

Sears grew to become the world's largest retailer by 1964, surpassing the A & P grocery chain. The historic North Kansas City building that Sears built in 1913 served the community as a commercial building occupied by various businesses through the twentieth century. Demonstrating North Kansas City's change in recent decades, the former Sears warehouse was repurposed to serve as an apartment complex known as Park Lofts.
